Between 1920 and 1923, approximately 350,000 Greek civilians and 450,000 Armenians were massacred on the basis of their ethnicity and religion within the Ottoman realm. The killings were unspeakable, with depravity that had not been seen since the times of Genghis Khan. The man in charge of the Turkish forces responsible for these killings was Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the leader of what was known as the Young Turks movement. Thousands of Greek soldiers fought desperate battles in Asia Minor against Ataturk’s forces, who happened to be subsidized by the Soviet Union (hence why he finds supporters in SYRIZA today), all of this was for nothing according to representatives of SYRIZA’s chapter in New York City. To hold the Greek flag, the very same banner that great men clutched tightly as they fell in combat for their fatherland against Kemalist butchers, in a sea of his worshippers, effectively spits on the graves of hundreds of thousands of Pontian Greek victims, as well as the very Hellenic culture Ataturk and Ottoman’s before him tried to exterminate from the face of the earth.
Despina Lalaki, a professor at NYU working for the Onassis Program In Hellenic Studies (!), as well as Nicholas Levis a local Astoria, NY neo-Marxist, both came out with their group (with almost no Greek members) AKNY/SYRIZA NY to pose for pictures alongside portraits of Mustafa Ataturk and signs that read “The world is so proud of the children of ATATURK”. These two individuals are not new to the Greek community, in October they created SYRIZA NYC and then AKNY (AKNY.org) purely out of reaction to the news of a Golden Dawn chapter in New York. After repeated failures in trying to agitate the Greek community against Golden Dawn, Levis and Lalaki began to recruit Anarchist Paramilitary groups like “Anti-Racist Action” and “ANTIFA NYC” in order to provoke violence as a method to stop the legitimate charitable activities of Golden Dawn NY. Antifa NYC and an ARA organizer who has been charged with multiple politically-related violent felonies in the past, Thomas T. Keenan, were personally invited and attended a small April 21st demonstration in Athens Square Park, Astoria , with intents to do harm. These Anarchists, who hung out on the peripheries away from cameras and police, attempted to mob-attack the driver of a car passing by. This type of trash SYRIZA is bringing to cause problems in Astoria is not appropriate, and is embarrassing to the Greek community of America.
But the story does not end there. Despina Lalaki and Nicholas Levis also were involved in organizing a Communist propaganda film screening at the Stathakion Hellenic Federation. In response to neo-Marxists fooling the Hellenic Federation into playing this anti-Greek propaganda film, Golden Dawners stormed the auditorium with a megaphone to expose the film and tear the veil off the Marxist Ataturk-supporters who were hosting and recruiting at this event. After this incident, SYRIZA/AKNY is no longer welcomed in the Federation. Those communists who insult the Greek flag and lower it for Ataturk spit on the graves of the Greek women and children in Smyrna. They are not welcome in the Greek community, they should go home to the many communist institutions such as the Brecht Forum, where they are mainstream. We will be the ones who will continue to speak out against this Janissary corp, even if we’re the lone voice of reason!
Even further, Nicholas Levis, who lives in Astoria, also chaired a conference with representatives of Leftist paramilitary groups at the Pace University “Left Forum”, dedicated to “confronting” (code for violence) Golden Dawners in New York. To them it is terrifying to see Golden Dawners peacefully assembling and exercising constitutionally protected rights, as well as the amazing success our charity drives have been. As soon as this meeting concluded, they went to Zuccoti Park to support the “children of Ataturk”. Coincidence? I think not!
Is SYRIZA New York reaching out to Kemalists because Greeks of America do not support their anti-Hellenic agenda or their harassment of Greek patriots? We will see as this story continues to unfold.
