Golden Dawn New York sheds light on the more local issues of Greek society, with this translation of a statement by Konstantinos Antonopoulos, one of Golden Dawn’s regional candidates in the Athenian suburbs.
Hellenic Dawn for Attica:
In the once prosperous and historic areas of western Attica, the out of control unemployment and crime have created living standards comparable to third world countries. The historical areas of Thriassion with such a glorious past once known to all, now has been destroyed by unregulated industrialization and is the final blow to the already suffering people who live in the surrounding area.
The unregulated industrialization has created two polluting refineries and also heavy industry companies right in the heart of Aspropyrgos and Elevsinas . The atmosphere has been changed with the presence of unbearable gas fumes and noise that is worst in the summer months. A visible reactor and landfill creates this strong stench that has now become the complete image of the once historic area of Thriassion.
The crime rate has gone way too far, thousands of illegal immigrants move around as they please with complete immunity from local authorities. Roma Gypsies who specialize in burglary, drugs and looting of property have been completely undisturbed for decades without a thought given for the local residents. The local government does not stop them, instead they embrace them and law abiding citizens have their taxes increased in these regions. They are given secondary importance. A booming drug trade and the deaths that result sounds a huge alarm while the state sits idly by doing nothing. Police presence is down to zero, the abolition of municipal local police has been a crushing blow to these neighborhoods. Departments can not even respond to simple incidents as long as these under performing patrols continue in this way. Crime in this vast area has become a way of life.
Then there is the unemployment paradox, the true percentages of unemployment far exceed the numbers given by local authorities, youth unemployment runs rampant. How can such a large industrial area, with dozens of companies remain having an untapped local workforce and offer medieval working conditions to those that are employed? Older residents can not find jobs and younger people are preferred because they are without family obligations. Lifetime family businesses are eaten and swallowed up by the memorandum from the Anti-Greek junta of Samaras-Venizelos. An image of total dissolution everywhere.
Areas with huge historical significance, with rich and interesting archaeological findings that reveal the glorious past of our ancestors remain in obscurity. In Elevsina there is an archaeological site, an ancient place of worship where no progress has been made. In Megara, areas unattended and abandoned are at the mercy of looters and God.
Local infrastructure has been abandoned, flood planning is non-existent, villages remain without proper zoning, becoming hostages to the Mayor. Roads have become death traps, notorious for infamous accidents on the NATO road. Recreational facilities fall into disrepair, parks are barren and without any greenery. Pollution and illegal contracting has damaged the surrounding mountains and forests. Animal welfare is non-existent, the local government leaves stray animals doomed to die of sickness and starvation.
By the will of the people I will work on the real problems plaguing our region. The areas I mentioned have experienced depreciation and social deprivation to the fullest. The governing local bodies ruling in western Attica have yet to deliver on any worthwhile project and have only carried out decisions by coalition of the Memorandum, leading to impoverishment of thousands of households. “Hellenic Dawn for Attica” in government will bring transparency to the finances of municipalities and the region, infrastructure projects benefiting citizens. What is needed is political will and appetite and young people with clean hands to work for the community. We can offer this and we will do so with your vote in the May elections. With “Hellenic Dawn ‘and district commissioner Elias Panayiotaros it is my great honor to serve the ultimate good of the country and I will honor the choice of my comrades and the Greeks who trust their vote in the Hellenic Dawn.
