Book written by Nikos Konstantinou, prologue by Nikolaos Michaloliakos
“I’m afraid that in the case of Golden Dawn we’ve lost “the game”, because even the negative coverage of their activities has emerged as an advertisement. I dare accept, despite that fact that I will upset my beloved colleagues, that Golden Dawn has beaten us on our home field.” –Michalis Ignatiou
The above comments, in just a few words summarize the desperation of all the “experts” towards the phenomenon that is Golden Dawn. Hundreds of articles have been written by the Greek and international press about us, in their agony to answer the question “who is responsible?” for the fact that the Nationalists have come to constitute a considerable political force with percentages that no one can imagine just where they may reach? Just what went wrong in the calculations of those that shape the way the masses think?
The most simple answer that our analysts utter with ease is that it’s because of the impoverishment that came with the memorandum. Poverty and lack of state apparatus were the main ingredients that brought the Golden Dawn in to parliament, according to them, while hundreds of other views remain and are presented by the journalistic world in their discussions and always in our absence, as if we are already just a bad memory from the past!
Don’t expect us in this book to also analyze the causes that boosted the Nationalist Movement, let’s let our beloved “experts” live out that drama. However we are obliged to answer to those around us that say that Golden Dawn owes its success solely to the economic crisis, that the same or worse conditions are prevailing in other countries, without the appearance of a Golden Dawn, rather only picturesque and harmless groups like the Karatzaferis model.
(Translators Note: “Karatzaferis Model” implies fake nationalist parties that have appeared as a pressure valve for the system.)
Before we continue further, we want to share a personal story to demonstrate just how seriously we understand the role we will play in the coming years. It was the mid 2000’s, at the small offices on Socratous st. in the center of occupied Athens, where there were obvious signs of decline and drug use, gang crime, prostitution and much more which was halted for just a few days, so the country could show the “glamorous” side of Gianna Angelopoulos’ and the Karamanlis Government’s Olympic Games… But those who ached for their homeland were witnesses to what was happening. At the time there was no crisis, nor IMF, nor a… Merkel who wanted our destruction, so everything went well and many were preoccupied with themselves. Inside that small office and while politically we were at 0.5% or less, the Leader of Golden Dawn, told a team of members that they shouldn’t doubt that “the thing we are fighting for isn’t a piece of pie that is power, or to become a piece of the corrupt system, but the recapturing of the fatherland and nothing less.”… That is an answer to those who want to casually downplay our historic success in 2012.
It may seem impossible to explain something you don’t understand. That’s exactly what all those who belong to a world so different from our own are doing and they don’t realize that their time is coming to an end and a new one in rising, with an outlook not of the economy, but of the Nation. When at last as a people we’ll have the fatherland as our center of interest, then you can be certain that the economy will follow our rules. For as long as individualism prevails, don’t expect any positive signs in the financial markets. The repayments will always be there to remind you that you live in an occupied state and the international usurers will always look for a pound of blood as repayment.
